Whereas lately on the voidance of the rectory of the church of
Westmmster. Eyselham by the death of Master Adam de Swafham in the time of
Simon, bishop of Norwich, a contention was moved in the king's court
before the justices in the Bench by the king's writ between John son
°l i™ a n d E U l s d o H o d e s t o n touching the advowson of the said
church, and the said bishop, pending the said contention, by lapse
ot six months, instituted John de Norwyco, clerk as rector in the
same, as pertained to the bishop, and the said John has been rector
tor three years and mor©; and whereas the king, upon the late
voidance of the vicarage of the said church by the death of Master
Ihomas Essewy, who held it at the king's presentation, believing
that the said church was vacant, presented his clerk John le Breton
to the same and he was admitted to the guardianship of the said
cimren by the diocesan, and the king understands for certain that the
advowson of that church is purely of the king's patronage and that
the said Thomas was admitted to the said church on the presentation
°* f1^ John; the king, pitying the poverty and need of the said
clerk, and wishing to do him grace because of the praiseworthy

testimony concerning him, grants to him that, upon the voidance
of the church by the confirmation of the said John le Bretun, bishop
elect of Hereford, or by his cession or decease, tho king out of charity
will present him to the said church so that he may be instituted
parson thereof. |
