[London.] A. 7840. Chirograph, not indented, being a grant by the prior,
Peter, and convent of Holy Trinity, London, to Alvred le Bochiere of a certain
land of theirs which is in the parish of St.Olave towards the Tower, which next
before him John Herlizun held ; to hold to him and his heirs freely and
quietly in fee and heredity for 12rf. yearly for all service, to wit 6f/. at
Michaelmas and Gd. at Easter ; he has sworn in the chapter of the canons
on the four evangiles to be faithful to the church for this tenement and
that he will keep well the appointed terms for rendering the rent (censii)
without fail (sine occasione et meskenning') ; the said land is 6 ells wide on
the street and 30 ells deep ; if he wish to pledge or sell his fee the canons
to have the preference by one bezant ; for this he has given them 12d. in
gersum. Witnesses : John de Ballio and others (named).
