For the grantor's family see D. C. Douglas, The Domesday Monachorum of Canterbury, 29, and Farrer (HKF iii. 194-6). An assize as to land in Lullingstone and Farningham in Kent of the Trinity term 1200 shows the grantor's father to be dead and he himself under age (Cur. Reg. Rolls, i. 187); he was still under age in Sept. 1205 (Rot. Lit. Claus. i. 50). On the other hand, the witness Peter son of Henry fitzAilwin, the first mayor of London, died before 30 Oct. 1207 (ibid. i. 95b). This charter is cited by Manning and Bray, Hist. of Surrey, iii. 562, from Dodsworth MSS. xxx. 21. |
