1007. [1277-8] Grant by Alice de Merton abbess of St. Athelburge of Berkyng and the convent to Holy Trinity of a quit rent of 13s. 8d. p.a. namely 8s. 8d. [f. 186v] from land and houses built thereupon once of Edmund the Cordwainer in the parish of St. Michael by Algate; abutments, the tenement of the late Roger de Leuesham on the west and that of the late Thomas le Breton on the east; and 5s. p.a. from land and houses once of Joce the Barber (Capillarius) in Marthlane in the parish of All Hallows Stanyngcherch by the Tower; abutments, the tenement of Alice de Portesmuthe on the south and that of Henry le Lung on the north; to hold on condition that half of all the rent shall be used for the church and half for the infirm in the infirmary; rent a clove-gillyflower at Easter; the canons to have the right to enter and take naam if the rent is in arrears; the canons gave 10 marks; sealed; witnesses, Gregory de Rokesle, mayor, John Adrian, Walter le Engleis, sheriffs, John de Norhamtone, William de Hadestoke, aldermen of these wards, Ralph de la More, John Cok, clerk.
