Confirmation by Walter son of Ralph Oter, in pure and perpetual alms, to the Blessed Virgin and the church of St Peter of Westminster, of all his land in the City of London, in the parish of St Mary at Hill, with both the wooden and the stone buildings (measurements given). The annual rent of 2d. is due to the socage of Henry de Bohun or his heirs. [1191 x 1199]
Sciant presentes et futuri quod ego Walterus filius Radulfi Oter dedi et concessi et hac presenti carta mea confirmavi, in puram et perpetuam elemosinam Deo et Beate Marie et ecclesie Beati Petri Westmonasterii totam terram meam in civitate London' que jacet in parrochia Sancte Marie de Huile, cum edificiis tarn ligneis quam Papideis. Que terra continet in longitudine versus austjum et aquilonem triginta et tres ulnas et tres quartarios de ulnis Regis Ricardi; et in latitudine versus aquilonem tresdecim ulnas; et iterum versus austrum ex alia parte in latitudine decem et octo ulnas. Habendam et tenendam ecclesie eidem libere et quiete, integre et plenarie, inperpetuum. Date: Attestations and the hand are late 12C; references to ells of King Richard, and mayoralty of Henry Fitz Ailwin. Henry de Bohun succeeded his father, Humphrey III, c. 1187, and attained his majority before 1200. Despite the reference to his heirs, he lived until 1220 (Sanders, 91-2). |
