Friday the Feast of St. George [23 April], 17 Edward I.
[A.D. 1289], Walter Bacun, who said he was a chaplain, took
refuge in St. Paul's Church, where William le Mazeliner, the
Coroner of the lord the King in London, went to him together
with Sir John le Bretun, then Warden of the City, Barunchin,
John de Banquelle, and other reputable men [not named] ; and
the said Coroner in the presence of the aforesaid men asked
the said Walter the reason why he kept himself in the said
church, and he acknowledged himself to be a robber and to
have stolen sixteen silver dishes belonging to the said Barunchin
; and after this acknowledgment the dishes were delivered
by the Coroner to William de Bettoyne, the Sheriff, to be kept
under the seal of the said Barunchin. |
