Whereas, at the suggestion of certain lieges, the king-caused to
come before him and before the Council Peter de Wakeres, merchant
of Munpelets, and charged him with having adhered to Simon de
Montefort's, sometime earl of Leicester, in the last disturbance had
in the realm, and having by word and deed done all he could against
t h e k i n g , and on t h i s Peter p u t himself on an inquisition of good
of the city of L o n d o n , w h e r e h e w a s then dwelling; the king, u p on
the said inquisition being m a d e before J o h n A d r i a n a n d W a l t e r H e r v y,
w h o m he d e p u t e d for this, h a s f o u n d b y oath of m e r c h a n t s as well of
the city of L o n d o n as f r o m b e y o n d the seas, that Peter is guiltless
of the crimes charged against h i m , a n d signifies this to all bailiffs. |
