Whereas tuns of wine coming to the realm by the hands of divers
Westminster, merchants are in these times so much short of their right and ancient measure that some of them contain less than their right gauge and measure by five to twelve sexters, as the king is informed ; the king has appointed Poncius de la More, merchant of Gascony, to gauge and faithfully measure the tuns of wine coming into the realm for
sale by view of good men, so that so much may be deducted from the
price as there is short in the measure ; and the said Poncius shall
take for the faithful execution of his office upon every tun sold \ i .
from the seller and \&. from the buyer ; until Midsummer twelvemonth.
Appointment of the said Poncius as taker of the king's wines in
England, as well in the city of London as elsewhere, so that he make
the king's prises of the wines coming to the realm as shall be most
expedient for the king, and answer for the same as other takers have
been accustomed to do, and so also that the king may have his wines
of the right prise Jor the expenses of the household when they are
required; and if the king do not require all of such wines, then Poncius shall answer for the rest of the wines according to their value as
appraised by view, testimony and oath of two good men sworn for
this. And if the king take any wines of the right prise for the
expenses of the household, the king will pav the said Poncius for every
