Grant by Abbot Walter to St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, of the tenement of Terric son of Albric, which Terric held of the abbey in Friday Street, with a house which Andrew, son of Terric, held of the abbey and the tenement which Ralph de Quatremars held of the abbey in Bread Street (London). Sciant presentes et futuri quod ego Walterus, Dei gratia abbas Westmonasterii, et conventus eiusdem loci concessimus hospitali Sancti Bartholomei de Lundon et fratribus eiusdem hospitalis, totum tenementum Terrici filii Albrici, quod predictus Terricus de nobis tenuit in Fridaystrate, preter unam domum de eodem tenemento quam Andreas filius predicti Terri& de nobis tenet; tenendum de nobis iure perpetuo, reddendo annuatim camere monachorum vij solidos ad duos terminos, scilicet: ad Purificationem Sancte Marie iij solidos et vj denarios; [et]2 ad Festum Sancti Petri ad Vincula iij solidos et vj denarios. Similiter eis concessimus totum tenementum quod de nobis Radulfus de Quatremars tenuit in Bredstrat, solvendo inde annuatim camere monachorum solidos et x denarios ad Festum Sancti Petri ad Vincula. Ut autem conventio ista perpetuetur sigilli nostri auctoritate et sigilli hospitalis Sancti Bartholomei testimonio roboratur. Facta est vero hec conventio anno regni Henrici Regis Secundo xxx°, depositionis autem Ricardi Cantuariensis archiepiscopo primo, Willelmo filio Sabell' tunc existente vicecomite London'. Hiis testibus: Willelmo filio Isabel', Johanne Buchunte; Henrico filio Ailwini; Ricardo filio Reineri; Willelmo filio Brithmari.

Note: Richard Sporley in his version of Flete blames Abbot Walter for making this grant (BL Claudius A VIII, f. 50); it is not mentioned in Flete itself. 'The house of Ralph Quatremars was in the southern part of Bread Street . . . and next door towards the river, was a stone house which belonged. to Alulf the father of Constantine who was sheriff in 1197' (Moore, Hist. St Bartholomew's, 211; cf. 292 above). |
