1321. Charter of Maurice son of Eugenia granting to Robert son of Guthaky a garden before the gate of St. Mary Overy church, Southwark, which Maud Ruffa held of Alexander son of Henry. Rent I. lb. cumin. Reversion to Maurice after Robert's death; if Robert outlives Maurice the garden shall remain Robert's, together with the adjacent messuage; if Robert enters a religious order in Maurice's lifetime, Maurice will surrender himself and the messuage and garden to the order. Witnesses: Mr. Luke son of Bartholomew, Richard son of John, John the Clerk, Richard son of Maurice, Peter Ivene, John Blundus, Richard Blundus, Roger the Clerk, Roger Timbermongere and Alan de Balun. 2 This charter appears to come from about the same time as Robert’s grant to Chertsey, ante, no. 1207, which can be dated c. 1193-1212 from the mayoralty of Henry [fitz Alan], one of the witnesses. |
