Description From: Roger le duc, citizen of London Prior J and the convent of Canterbury Cathedral Prior, as patrons of the benefice, and Mgr Henry, rector of All Hallows Bread Street [London] have given Roger permission to build an oratory in his house provided he guarantees that the mother church will not lose any spiritual or temporal benefits as a result. Offerings and legacies to the oratory or the chaplain shall be given to the mother church. No chaplain shall be admitted to serve the oratory without the rector's permission and he shall promise to pay anything he receives from the chantry to the mother church. If the chaplain engineers anything to the prejudice of the mother church, the priory shall suspend him and if he persists it may remove him. There shall be no baptistery ('baptisterium'), chrism, oil or bell in the oratory. The parishioners of the mother church shall not go to divine service there or be there without the rector's permission, nor shall they receive marriages, churchings or other spiritual benefits at the oratory, especially on major feasts or the feast of dedication of the mother church, unless this is necessary for the chaplain of the mother church. Roger, his household and the chaplain of the oratory shall attend the parish church and are not to withdraw any offerings, tithes or legacies to it or draw away the parishioners. After Roger's death, there shall be no services in the oratory until his heirs give the priory and the rector sufficient indemnity. The rector does not have to provide for the oratory or bear any burdens on its behalf. No date.
