124 CALENDAR OF LETTER-BOOKS.
Tuesday the morrow of St. Peter in Cathedra [22 Feb.],
1 8 Edward I. [A.D. 1289-90], came Hugh de Waltham, clerk to
the Sheriffs of London, and acknowledged himself bound to
William de Bettoyne, Chamberlain of the Guildhall, in the sum
of 18; to be paid fifteen days after Easter, and unless, &c.
Nevertheless the said Hugh delivered to the said William
10 casks of wine which remained in the custody of the said
Hugh in two cellars in the Vintry, by way of pledge, on the
understanding that if the said wine be not sufficient for the
aforesaid sum, the balance shall be raised on other goods and
chattels of the said Hugh. |
