the view and testimony of William Hardel and the said Walter, as testified by the chirograph made between th~m ; 6s. spent

Allocate to the same in t he issues of the bishopric l,OOOl. Delivered to the king's chamberlains by the hand of William Hardel on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday at Portesm' to carry to the king
in Gascony.
Allocate to the same in the issues of the bishopric lOOl. Delivered to William Hardel at Portesm' for liveries of soldiers, mariners, and others, crossing to the king in Gascony with his treasure at the time of the crossing of the abbot of Evesham and Paulin Peyvre.
Computate to the same in the issues of the bishopric 49l. 19s. 6id. spent in purchasing 225 ells of canvas, 49! quarters of wheat, 20 carcases (karkoys) of beef, 20 of mutton, 22 pigs, and many other necessaries for t he equipment of three ships in which the abbot of Evesham and Paulin Peyvre crossed the sea to the king in Gascony with his treasure; 22l. 16s. 6d. for the expenses of the abbot and Paulin for 15 full days from the Decollation of St.
John the Baptist while waiting for a favoumble wind to go on
board ship at Portesm' ; 7s. lOtd. expenses of the escort of the
treasure from Winchester to Portesm'; and 4s. 8d. expenses of
John de Shifford, clerk, and in hire (conductione) of a horse for
his journey from Winchester to London to hasten the treasure. |
