To the sheriffs of London. Oontrabreve to feed 10,000 poor
for the soul of the count of Provence, besides the friars preachers
and friars minors, the sick in the hospitals, and the anchoresses
in and about London, who are also to be fed, as William de Haverhull and Edward de Westm' will tell him from the king. Mandate to William and Edward, as it may not be possible to find so many poor at once, to enjoin the sheriffs to feed them by turns from day to day till the number is completed ; and to make 150 tapers to burn continually in St. Peter's church at Westminster throughout the solemn service which the king has ordered to be celebrated there for the soul of the count. The king will repay the cost of the tapers when he knows it. |
